CARPET
The choice is abundant when considering carpet - colour, pattern, weave, pile type, and material it is guaranteed there will be an option to suit any style and budget, making a home feel inviting and welcoming. It adds warmth and comfort to a room and is therefore ideal in bedrooms, snugs, playrooms and lounges. Carpet will help save energy as it insulates the floor and provides a warm, soft surface underfoot. Noise is reduced as the carpet absorbs sound – a good underlay will add further sound insulation. Depending on the material from which a carpet is made, many can be cleaned with gentle household cleaners.
RUNNERS
Whilst stair runners are often viewed as a feature within a more traditional interior, the variety of flooring that can be made into a runner is vast and can be made to look as contemporary or traditional as you like. A runner adds automatic style and practicality to a staircase!
Compliment interior design and make a stair runner unique by adding stair rods or colour-bound edges. The addition of a runner can make a staircase look longer and make it more of a feature in an interior space that is often overlooked when considering décor. If fitted over a hardwood staircase, a stair runner will protect from damage and wear, a safer non-slip surface and insulation. A stair runner will reduce noise levels within this high-traffic area of the home as well as provide cushioning underfoot when running up and down the stairs.
HARDWOOD
Wood flooring is available as either solid wood or engineered wood. Solid wood is the natural product of a felled tree. Engineered wood has a top layer of solid wood which ranges from 3mm – 6mm in thickness with the rest of the board being made up of multi-layered plywood. Engineered wood flooring is more affordable than solid wood flooring and is an eco-friendlier option however, solid wood flooring is more durable over time – for this reason solid wood flooring is an investment and can add value to your property.
Both options are incredibly hard-wearing, easy to maintain and clean making these flooring types are an excellent option for most areas including sitting rooms, family rooms, home office. Wood flooring is not suitable in areas of high humidity such as bathrooms or utility rooms. Over time wood flooring will scratch and dent but this is part of the character of this flooring type. However, as wood flooring can be sanded down and refinished superficial dents and scratches can be eliminated.
Wood flooring brings a beautiful timeless, warm aesthetic quality to an interior space. The laying of a wood floor can enhance a space and create the illusion of making a room seem longer or wider depending on how the flooring is fitted. A huge range of finishes are available including colour, grains and knots, plank width and length and fitting pattern - herringbone, chevron, random, diagonal, straight. Wood flooring is a good choice for allergy sufferers as there are no fibres to trap dirt, dust, pollen or other airborne microparticles.
NATURAL FLOORING
Incredibly hard-wearing and tough makes this flooring type an excellent option for high-traffic areas such as sitting rooms, family rooms, stairs, landings and hallways. Natural flooring is environmentally friendly as it is made from sustainable sources including: seagrass, sisal, jute and coir. The manufacturing process does not include any chemical dying – colour options range from warm gold to light natural green tones.
Natural flooring is one of the most hypoallergenic choices as it is allergen free - the tight weave does not allow for shedding resulting in fewer irritants in the air. A range of weaves creates classic patterns that add an element of rustic chic and sophistication to an interior space. It is worth noting, natural flooring does not bode well when wet and should not be considered for areas that may be exposed to damp conditions or moisture. The natural fibres that make up natural flooring should not be made wet and should not be exposed to any water-based cleaning methods as the fibres become black.
UNNATURAL FLOORING
Durable and hard-wearing, unnatural flooring gives the look of natural flooring but unlike natural flooring, unnatural flooring is made from vinyl, polyamide and polypropylene which makes it washable and can therefore be cleaned with water-based products. The practicability of this flooring makes it a great choice for areas of high traffic areas as well as rooms where you still want the high-end interior appearance but may require more maintenance such as a playroom.
Like natural flooring, a range of weaves are available to create the rustic woven appeal of natural flooring and is dyed to mimic the colour pallet of natural flooring. As Unnatural flooring can be exposed to moisture it can be fitted in all areas even bathrooms!
